HAMStudy: Privacy Policy
Last Updated: June 13, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how HamStudy (“the App”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) handles your information when you use our mobile application.
We take your privacy very seriously. Our core philosophy is to build a utility that is private, local-first, and respects your data. Please read this policy to understand how your information is managed.
1. Executive Summary
- No User Accounts: You do not need to register, log in, or create an account to use the App.
- Local Data Storage: All of your learning progress, exam history, bookmarked questions, and application settings are stored locally on your device. They are never uploaded to our servers or shared with third parties.
- No Analytics or Trackers: We do not use third-party analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or tracking scripts that monitor your behavior across the web or other apps.
- Minimal Network Activity: The App only connects to the internet to download, update, or sync official amateur radio question databases and related media from our server.
2. Information We Collect and How We Use It
A. Personal Information
We do not collect any personally identifiable information (PII), such as:
- Name
- Email address
- Phone number
- Mailing address
- Device contacts or photos
- Physical location
B. App Usage and Progress Data
As you use the App, it generates progress indicators and statistics, including:
- Question practice history and answering accuracy
- Weak spots and chapter performance metrics
- Mock exam history and scores (pass/fail status, duration, dates)
- App settings (e.g., theme preferences, selected question databases)
How this is stored: This data is stored directly on your device in a local SQLite database (via Drift) and locally stored key-value pairs (via SharedPreferences). We do not have access to this data, and it is deleted if you uninstall the App.
C. Network Data & Server Logs
When you download or update question databases within the App, your device makes a request to our servers (hosted at https://ut2ubm.com). Like most websites and web services, the hosting server automatically logs technical requests. This logged data may include:
- Your Internet Protocol (IP) address
- Your device’s User-Agent string (which includes your OS version)
- Date and time of the request
- The specific database files requested
How we use this: These logs are standard web server logs and are used solely for server maintenance, diagnostics, rate limiting to prevent abuse, and ensuring the smooth delivery of database assets. We do not link these server logs to any personal identity or in-app study performance.
3. Data Storage, Retention, and Deletion
All your study statistics and exam records remain strictly on your physical device.
- Data Portability & Control: You can reset your statistics or delete downloaded databases at any time through the in-app settings.
- App Uninstallation: If you delete/uninstall the App from your device, all locally stored data, including study progress and settings, will be permanently deleted by your device’s operating system. This action is irreversible.
4. Third-Party Services and Links
The App contains links to external websites (such as the project website https://ut2ubm.com).
- When you click on any external links, you will be directed to that third-party site in your default system web browser.
- We do not control, and are not responsible for, the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party websites. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of any website you visit.
5. Children’s Privacy
Our App is designed for anyone interested in studying for their amateur radio licenses, including children. Since the App does not collect any personal information, it is fully compliant with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) standards regarding children’s data. We do not knowingly collect, solicit, or maintain personal information from children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the European Union).
6. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy in this file (or on our official website) and updating the “Last Updated” date at the top of this document.
You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted.
